Coming from a rural background, a mail box was always considered a very functional necessity. Every year the black box with its orange lilies seemed to stand out on East Carling Bay road. This inspired me to venture out on area sideroads with my camera in search of unique mailboxes.
Just up the road was the happy face and I wondered - does this inspire the mail man to smile as he loads the box?
Curiosity about the construction of the new Highway 400 extension through Nobel led me to explore Pineridge Drive. One would like to think that the owners of the green fish are anglers. The children's toys in a yard on Pineridge Drive were perhaps the inspiration for the mail truck.
What's in a name? Sometimes a name is inspiration for creativity as found on Highway 124 at the Forth's residence. As the driver turns off toward Magnetawan the artistry of the Fraser and Moor mailboxes catch one's eye before you reach the unusual wooden silo.
James Bay Junction and Rankin Lake Roads yield the balance of our art. The two little bears glow at night and are backed by a yard full of interesting rides. Do you suppose the yellow airplane is only for airmail and like the model car, there was not enough wind to make them active?
All in all, mailboxes are delightful encounters on our sideroads.
